Elsa Sullivan Lanchester was born on October 28, 1902, in London, England.
She was an English actress who later immigrated to America and was nominated for an Academy Award. Her parents, James Seamus Sullivan and Edith Biddy Lanchester, were socialists and active members of the Social Democratic Party.
They never officially married due to their opposition to the institution of marriage.
From a young age, Elsa Lanchester dreamed of becoming a ballerina. At the age of ten, her mother arranged for her to attend Isadora Duncan's dance school in Paris.
